Description:
New Member Walk - Leura to Katoomba (Blue Mountains) Sunday 5th March 2017.
PLEASE NOTE: WALK IS WAITLISTED AT PRESENT. Please send me an email if you want to be on the waitlist (some people might drop out before sunday).

I won't exclude existing members but new members will be given first choice for a spot.

A very VERY scenic walk in the Blue Mountains. Starts at Leura and ends up at Katoomba Station. No shortage of great views and also some waterfalls.

Walk length is about 11km, with a mixture of level and undulating track but also one fairly steep climb out (Furber Steps - Google it or look at http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/Walking-tracks/Furber-StepsScenic-Railway-walking-track ).
Can expect to get back to Sydney by 6.30pm.

Train fare if you have Opal Card is $2-50 return. In fact the total cost of ALL public transport is only $2-50 for the whole day.

Bring lunch, at least 1.5 Litres water, good shoes (Dunlop Volleys are OK), and if it looks like there might be a bit of rain, (it's hard to forecast yet for Katoomba that day), a rain cover of some sort. Also, we don't walk if the temperature forecast is to be above 30 degrees in the Blue mountains. Although at present the maximum temperature for Sunday in the Mountains is forecast to be 22 degrees C.

Overseas students: best not to make any assumptions about bushwalks in NSW based on your home experience - it is probably very different! If you need any further information just send me an email.

Please note that smoking is not allowed on trains, nor in National Parks. I also prefer that smokers not smoke throughout the whole walk.

I also have a problem with people talking very loudly on walks, and so does the National Parks Service.
See link: http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/conservation-and-heritage/care-for-parks/thoughtful-walking

The meeting place and time will be sent to you once you sign up for the walk.
Please note that the uni webmail system sometimes "quarantines" some emails for several hours, so there might be a delay in my replying to you.

Members only, please. Only sign up for this walk if are sure you can come. We take a dim view of "no shows".
