This Sunday I am going to check out the remains of the Bleichard Ropeway, which was built in 1889 to carry coal across the Jamison Valley from the mine at the base of the Ruined Castle, to the bottom of the incline railway that is now the Scenic Railway.

Start time will be 9:00 am at Katoomba Falls Kiosk. I can also pick up from Katoomba station, but there is trackwork on the Blue Mountains line this weekend so you would need to catch a bus from central station at about 5:30 to make it up in time.

The plan is go down the Furber steps to pick up the remains of the ropeway, then follow it across the valley to the Ruined Castle. Depending on time/energy/daylight, return trip will either be via Federal Pass, or off track back across the valley via ridge above Ruined Castle Gully, down Kedumba River and up Three Sisters Creek to pick up Sublime Point Ridge Firetrail near the helicopter pad.

This will be 6+ hrs off track walking, so decent level of fitness is needed. No exposure or scrambling expected.
