Bron and I are heading out to the Capertee Valley this weekend to explore Mt Canobla and Mt Gundangaroo, which is a little-visited spot in Wollemi National Park.
This impressive sandstone mesa towers over the valley. It is basically a bigger version of nearby Pantoneys Crown. For years as I've driven past it on the way to Glen Davis I've looked up at the impressive cliffs that surround it and wanted to climb it.
While we won't be covering a huge amount of distance, this will be a reasonably tough trip. I am expecting at least one of the passes to be quite exposed and require good scrambling skills. I will also be taking a short rope and harness so that we can explore what looks like a short canyon near the summit. We'll hopefully find a campsite near the cliffs so we can enjoy a stunning sunset and sunrise.
This trip is only suitable for people with previous experience doing off-track, overnight bushwalks. It will require confidence with abseiling and rock scrambling.
If you have any questions, please send me an email.
