#Please note my car is now full but get in touch if you have 4WD SUV and wish to drive yourself#
Over the Queens Birthday Long Weekend 10-12 June 2017 I plan to visit the Cobberas Mountains in North East Victoria. They are a high range of remote rugged mountains that see few visitors. And they have been on my to do list for a long time! Although there is supposed to be a track to the summit of Mt Cobberas 1 the area is mostly known for its off track and remote walking. If possible I would love to go up Cleft Peak too but this will depend on how much time it all takes. It is wild wilderness after all…
They are 1800m high so snow /bad weather is possible.
Therefore this trip does not suit beginners, you will need off track experience. I have room in my car for one more person only.
If you have a car you'll need a 4WD or high clearance car (SUV) as the roads are very rough.
My (slightly crazy) plan is…
Drive down to the car based campsite on Saturday via Jindabyne, Barry Way and Wulgulmerang. This will take much of the day.
Climb the Cobberas on Sunday – all day, then car camp at the start of the track again. You will only need your day walking gear for the climb, this will make us faster on foot. But you will need to be prepared for the rough stuff, bring compass /map/GPS if you can (Vicmap WILLIS sheet)
I have GPS and a PLB.
You'll need your passport for Victoria (just kidding!).
Return home Monday.
I live in the Illawarra south of Sydney so the plan is to be that you can stay at my place and we get an early start on Saturday for the drive. You can get to my house by train, I can collect you at a nominated station on T4 or South coast line.
I’d get you back to a train station to get you home late on Monday night.
We will share petrol costs if in my car.
Still interested? Then let me know!
