Blue Mountains Lawson North and South Waterfall Circuits

We will be walking along bush tracks and fire trails to the myriad of waterfalls (at least 15) near Lawson in the Blue Mountains. In the morning we will explore the waterfalls to the north of the station and in the afternoon, those to the south finishing at Hazelbrook Station late afternoon. The waterfalls will include Junction, Fairy, St Michaels, Frederica, Cataract, Federal, Dantes Glen, Terrace as well as others.

I expect there to be a fair bit of water due to the recent rain so expect the ground to be muddy at times and wear suitable footwear. If it is a sunny day, a real bonus for us as the light filters through the forest. This is a great walk that is overlooked by many visitors to the Blue Mountains.

The walk is moderate difficulty and about 18 km in total and there is some moderate ascent and descent on steps and paths. If you wish you can do the North walk only (about 4 km) and finish around lunchtime at Lawson Station where hot food is available. After lunch, we will begin the much longer south Lawson circuit.

Those who walk the entire day can expect the valley to become dark as we head to our last stop Bedford Pool before we ascend from the valley to the fire trail.

We will catch the 8.18 train from Central arriving at Lawson at 10.01 AM and probably catch the train back to Sydney from Hazelbrook at either 4.47 or 5.17 Pm depending on the group's walking pace.

If the weather forecast predicts rain, the trip may be postponed to a later date due to the slippery sections we will be walking through.
