Walks programme - Sydney University Bushwalkers and Suboir United Bushwalkers - Joint activities

The trips listed here are joint trips of Sydney University Bushwalkers, and Suboir United Bushwalkers, unless otherwise specified. Not all trips are listed here: many are decided on impromptu on our mailing lists. The mailing lists are also the best way to find out the latest information on walks and other events. Some recurring events are listed at the bottom of this page.

New trip leaders are very welcome. If you would like to lead a trip, contact the walks secretary.

Many walks fill up quickly! Please let the trip leader know as soon as possible that you are interested, and tell them a little about yourself - your walking experience and fitness level, what gear you will need to borrow, where you live and whether you have access to a car.

Leaders have the right to refuse to take walkers if they lack the necessary fitness or experience.

Important Notice: Please read our rescue information.

421Sunday 14th March Royal National Park - Coast Walk. Going to take the day to walk from Otford to Bundeena. There's a train to the start and a ferry/train from the finish, so it's nice and easy transport-wise. Easy walking but it's quite long, so you'll want to be ready for it and wear comfortable shoes! Drop me an email if you're interested. tom murtagh

422March 20-21 After an abandoned attempt to do Davies Canyon in January I have decided to set aside a weekend and get out there before the canyoning season comes to an end. For those who don't know, Davies is a two day canyon near Kanangra that gets much less traffic than most due to its remote location. It is a deep, spectacular gorge with abseils of up to 60m.

The plan is to head out after work on Friday March 19, either camp near the cars or walk a few kilometres along fire trail, then head off early on Saturday, spending the day down the canyon. We will camp overnight at the end of the canyon before spending Sunday climbing close to 1000 metres up and walking back to the cars.

This trip requires lots of walking, mostly off track, through difficult terrain. You need to be an experienced walker and have confidence abseiling long drops. It is not a beginners trip. If you want to discuss it with me to work out if this trip is suitable for you feel free to give me a call. There will be a maximum group size of 6, and I have already got three locked in, so don't sign up unless you can definitely make it. Last minute drop-outs may mysteriously disappear in the bush on future trips! ;-)

I have ropes, but you will need to bring your own abseiling gear (harness, descender, gloves etc). Also required is overnight camping gear. We will need to take tents or a fly as there are no camp caves. To save on weight we will obviously try and share these. If you have any other questions about what gear you require feel free to flick me an email with your questions.
